Following the presentation of the government’s 2020 economic statement in parliament by the sector minister, Ken Ofori-Attah, much has been made of a supposed exclusion of roads in the Volta region from the budget.
The allegations, which were made by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu, Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa has been found to be frivolous following perusal of the entire budget document.
It is in response to the Okudzeto allegations that the NDCs Dela Coffie has come out to slam Hon. Okudzeto for trying to score political points from what was obviously his rushed reading of the document.
In the response, he also quizzed why the NDC was now complaining of the deplorable roads in a region known to be their vote bank when they could have fixed them all while in office from January 2009 to January 2017.
He wrote: “Okay, I’ve perused the entire government economic policy and budget statement for the year 2020, and I must say politics sucks in this country.
Folks like Okudzeto Ablakwa who should know better are out there behaving badly, and parroting the ‘great deception’ about ‘VOLTA REGION’ being omitted from the government’s policy programs for the coming year.
A quick check from the budget document reveals that quite a number of Volta roads projects were mentioned in paragraph 867. In fact there was a mention of the construction of Dufor Adidome – Asikuma road project, and table 21 list the other projects including dualisation of Ho main roads and the construction of Ho main bypass. It is therefoe very misleading and disingenuous for a member of parliament to lead such graceless enterprise in an attempt to score cheap political points.
In any event, why didn’t the NDC complete all the volta roads projects that was mentioned in the budget statements of 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016?
What prevented the NDC government from completing the Eastern Corridor Road? The Sokode-Ho road? Denu-Havedzi Road? Mafi-Kpedzeglo to Juapong Road? And many other promised roads projects in Volta region?
Should the argument be about who captured the region’s developmental projects in their budgets or it should be about whether we’ve been sincere enough with the people by executing the said projects in the region?
How plausible is it for your step mother to pull your ass out of the fire when your biological mother refuses to do so?
At least NPP is honest enough not to give the people of Volta region any promise they know they can’t fulfill.
The hypocrisy must stop at a certain point – Okudzeto Ablakwa and his like minds in the NDC must stop acting like the arsonist who always expects to take credit for having extinguished the fire that they set. They cannot starts a fire and then calls the fire department acting like a heroes.“
