“We approve of the Teacher Licensure exam, We only want fees reduced or waived” – GNAT makes position clear

A deputy General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) in charge of administration has said on Newsfile today that they approve of the Teacher licensing exam instituted by the current government.

He explained that the license would make them professional teachers and separate qualified teachers from posers who bring the teaching profession into disrepute.

Their only aversion was with the fees which they have asked government to reduce or waive it to reduce the financial burden on the teachers.

Meanwhile, ex president John Mahama in his recent Q and A Facebook live, said he will cancel the licensure exams if voted into power in 2020.

It is unknown which stakeholders the former president consulted before coming to that decision, whoever it was he consulted, it looks like he skipped a major stakeholder in the education sector which is the mother Association of all teachers, Ghana National Association of Teachers(GNAT).

Mr. Mahama in same live video said he would cancel teacher trainee allowances restored by the current government after he cancelled same during his 1 term tenure as president.
