A Ghanaian woman has narrated her ordeal at the hands of a negligent doctor after she went into labour back in the year 2003 at a hospital in KroboLand.

Narrating her story to Angel FM’s Captain Smart on the #PatientLivesMatter show, 53 year old Catherine Osom said she had gone to the Agormanya Roman hospital to deliver after she went into labour.

She says even though she was in pain, she was neglected for hours, until evening that a nurse only came to see her and encouraged her it was all going to be fine.

Continuing, she said she was taken to the theatre for a caesarean section, CS, and that was the beginning of her long ordeal.

She recounted that, she suffered severe stomach pains post the Caesarean section and a scan later revealed the surgeon had left a scalpel in her stomach during the surgery.

She was immediately returned to the theatre for another surgery to remove the scalpel amid unbearable pain. Doctors tried to make them pay for the follow up surgery but the husband insisted on not paying because it was their fault in the first place.

She said 8 months after the surgery, her stomach began swelling. A scan by one Doctor Lamptey at High street later revealed the doctor had again left the surgical thread he used in her stomach, which was causing her stomach to swell.

She returned to the same hospital and the same surgeon operated on her again, this time there was no anesthetist on duty so she was operated on without anesthesia. Shedding tears, the woman said she hadn’t felt that much pain in her life.

Netizens who reacted to the story asked the family to sue the doctor and the hospital for the untold pain his negligence caused her.
