The Reciever of Unibank has sued Dr. Duffour, his two children who were then Directors of Unibank, Ekow Nyarko Dadzie-Dennis who was also then a Director of Unibank, and six related-interests/entities of Dr. Duffuor, namely Hoda Holdings, Hoda Properties, Integrated Properties, Alban Logistics, Starlife Assurance, and Bolton Portfolio Ltd.
The Receiver has sued for recovery of GHc5.7 Billion (GHc5,712,623,145.00) in UNLAWFUL ADVANCES, UNLAWFUL LOANS, and UNLAWFUL GUARANTEES made to the shareholders and persons related or connected to them (including the body corporates)
The Receiver, in its Statement of Claims, says the Defendants “were in control of the Plaintiff [Unibank]” and “used their control over the Plaintiff to cause the execution of over 1,000 separate transactions for the benefit of the said shareholders and persons related or connected to them.”
These funds, taken by the Defendants, according to the Receiver’s claims, “were paid out of (i) amounts lodged by depositors for safekeeping (ii) borrowings from local and foreign banks, and (iii) liquidity support from BoG to enable the Plaintiff meet short-term liquidity needs.”
