Twitter influencers beg ex-prez Goodluck Jonathan to release young man, here’s why

The Nigerian twitter community have in a concerted effort, called on Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (GEJ), the former president of Africa’s largest economy, Nigeria, to cause the release of a young man named Shola Babatunde.

Shola Babatunde is said to have bee in police custody for over 60days after being arrested for allegedly impersonating the former president and making a joke about his wife.

Shola, who run a parody account of the ex-president on Twitter with the username @jaythedope, responded savagely to a tweet which then went viral, and eventually led to his arrest.

A tweep @irunnia tweeted “Who else noticed Nigeria has been boring ever since Buhari became the president? to whichΒ @Jaythedope responded “My wife was always the joke” alluding to the ex-president’s wife since his account bore Goodluck E. Jonathan’s name.

Shola’s health status is said to be bad as a Chinese cell mate has tested positive for covid but the police have refused to test him for the virus.

The calls are continuing to get louder as the Twitter community keeps on tweeting and calling for Shola’s release using the hashtag #FreeShola

Twitter Parody Accounts.

According to the Rules and policies of Twitter, parody accounts are allowed so long as it is clearly stated that it has no affiliation to the original individual or organization.

A screenshot of Shola’s GEJ parody account shows he had stated “Not GEJ”, which some have explained is an indication it was a parody account.
