While President Akufo-Addo has vowed to root out illegal mining activities in the country with several interventional policies, it does appear that a few people are bent on thwarting his efforts.
The Excavator Evacuation Team of the Inter-Ministerial Committee On Illegal Mining today busted some illegal miners at Manso Mpatasie in the Amansie South District.
The people who were captured included one Chinese and five military attired Ghanaians who claimed to have gone on retirement. Four of the Ghanaians managed to escape as the police did not have enough handcuffs to handle all of them.
Two Hitachi 355 working excavators and one bulldozer were seized by the Akwasi-Agyekum-led evacuation team.
Other items captured were one Toyota Hilux pick-up, five pump action guns and one hundred cartridges.
This episode is in sharp contrast with President Akufo-Addo’s war on galamsey and other illegal mining activities in several parts of the country.
District Chief Executives were recently warned that if found to be shepherding galamsey operatives and their activities in their zones, they would be held accountable.
It is unclear whether the DCE for the district is in the known of these activities in his area.
Further investigations have been triggered by the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) to ascertain all those involved in this matter. See the pictures below
