Streetlights on the Adenta-Madina road has been turned on just a day after residents went on a rampage, demonstrating against authorities for neglecting uncompleted footbridges, non-functional traffic lights and streetlights.
This neglect residents say, has caused the loss of over 190 lives and yesterday’s killing of a student by a car at Adenta was one too many. The spontaneous demonstration that erupted was therefore the result of a sentiment that had been simmering for a while.
The swift action by authorities to fix the streetlights with further promises to commence work on the footbridges next week goes to prove that the only language they understand is demonstration and violence. It also goes to show the ineptitude of not only politicians but some civil servants which always result in reactionary behavior and knee-jerk responses to critical issues affecting the citizenry.
