Controversial Ghanaian artiste Mzbel has added her voice to the ongoing debate concerning the deployment of millitary personnels in the Volta and Oti regions in the build up to the compilation of a new voters register.

There has been an unending debate on the reasons behind the deployment of the security operatives in the regions. Residents are complaining that the millitary are there to intimidate them from coming out to register in the voter registration exercise slated to start on Tuesday, June 30.
Answering questions regarding the issue in the media, NPP’s KT Hammond intimated that the presence of the millitary and other security operatives in the border towns of the two regions is to prevent Togolese from coming in to register in the upcoming registration exercise.

His comments have sparked an uproar in the Ghanaian traditional and social media space with many describing the comments as ethnocentric and divisive. The Volta caucus in Ghana’s parliament have hinted on a press conference they’re planning to hold to address the issue.

Mzbel, whose affinity for the NDC and its flag bearer is a known secret has hinted that the other regions considered as strongholds for the NDC such as the northern regions will soon be branded as Burkinabes.
She wrote on her Facebook page: “Our Northern people will also be referred to as Burkinabes soon lol”. Her post though simple, has garnered a lot of reaction with back and forth arguments in that regard.
