News broke last week that GHC 420,000 is the amount flagbearer aspirants have to cough up if they’re to contest in the election slated for January 9th. The move have angered many of the over 11 aspirants, some lamenting the fee is exorbitant and unreasonably high.
In order to stand a chance at finding the money, Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah and Prof. Joshua Alabi has resorted to appealing to the general public to donate funds to keep them in the race
The only aspirant who’s not complaining though is Former president John Mahama. Some people have alleged that the high fees were set so to allow Mahama go unopposed in the election as the powers that be at NDC knows the others certainly can’t afford the unrealistically high filling fee.
It is obvious that party bigwigs have thrown their weight behind the former president as was evident at the recently held delegates conference where only Mahama out of the 11 who’ve made known their intention to contest was allowed to mount the platform and address the party supporters.
