The recent Townhall Meeting with the Economic management team brought to bare the fine work albeit difficult the team has been doing and continues to do to clear the mess of the economic indiscipline that characterized the previous administration and which eventually led us to the IMF.
Admittedly, Ghanaians have so many ends to be met but I ask, How can one meet all of such ends with the austerity measures that came with the IMF deal. Limit on employment, spending etc. Becoming economically discipline in the face of austerity required cutting down on the ancilliaries. Remember it was the indiscipline on the part of the past government that landed us in the IMF mess in the first place.
Eventually, it will become clear that the most expedient move was to prioritize the removal of the Albatross that was hanged round our necks first before addressing giving all othe ends their needed attention. Unfortunately this meant Ghanaians had to bear the bitter pill a little longer before seeing the economic benefits promised by this government.
Now that the IMF is behind us, and the indicators are all showing static green, government can prioritize which sectors of the economy needs greater input, and I trust that Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia and the EMT will judiciously spend to improve all sectors of the economy including our pockets.
Already importers are raking in the benefits of the slash in the benchmarking of goods and vehicles at the ports which translates into lower port duties, testimonies of which have started flowing.
To conclude I say, economics is a science, once the indicators are looking good, the benefits will soon be felt in our pockets.
