Police officer Frederick Amanor who was caught on tape battering and abusing a nursing woman who had visited Midlands savings and loans to withdraw her savings.
Frederick was arraigned before an Accra high court today and pleaded not guilty to the charge of assault. The court subsequently remanded him in police custody and adjourned the case to August 9th 2018.
Patience Amanor, had on last week Thursday visited the shiashi branch of Midlands savings and loans company to withdraw her savings. The bank gave her and other customers the excuse of connectivity downtime and told them to wait or come back next day.
Patience in dire need of money to sort out her pressing personal issues decided to stay. She was there to withdraw GHC 250 but pleaded to be given GHC100 so she could come back another time for the rest but the employees of the bank refused.
All hell broke loose when it was time for the bank to close and Patience was asked to leave. She insisted on not leaving without her money which prompted Frederick Amanor, the police officer on guard at the time to apply excessive force to remove her. In the process Frederick kicked and beat the nursing woman mercilessly unaware he was being filmed.
When the video appeared online, it caused a public uproar with many sections of the public calling for his head. This led to his arrest and subsequent prosecution.
