The head of the Kano Zoological gardens and a gorilla are both under investigations by the police after money amounting to $19,000 went missing.
Umar Kashekobo accused the Gorilla of swallowing up funds which is meant to be money realised from gate fees collected from patrons especially during the Eid-Ul Fitr festivities. Mr. Umar is quoted to have said “All I can say is the money is missing”.
Abdullahi Ganduje who is the governor of the state has now ordered the anti-corruption commission to open an investigation into the issue, the state News Agency of Nigeria reported. The order directs the commission to “unearth everything surrounding the incident,” some media companies also reported.
Nigeria is not new to news of animals swallowing up public funds. In 2018, a snake was accused of swallowing up funds belonging to an examination body.
Netizens as usual reacted to the news with all the sarcasm they could muster. See some of the Twitter reactions below.
Gorilla swallows N6.8 million
Snake swallowed N36 million.
All my K.O. knows to do is eat, play and bark. Does he think I like pets that much? It’s either you change and join this #NextLevel animal evolution or I may have to consider you for Àsun by Christmas. Mbok 🙄 pic.twitter.com/Joqf4dmHag
