Ghanaian students in China praise Gov’t for constant food supply amid Covid-19 outbreak

Several Ghanaian students in Hebei province, the epicenter of the deadly coronavirus have taken to social media to praise Ghana government for making their welfare a priority throughout these trying times of Covid-19.

At the onset of the outbreak, parents and students in China, especially Hubei province agitated for government to repatriate them to Ghana, fearing for their lives.

But the government refused, citing advise from experts, saying the students were safer there in China with a better equipped Chinese health system than that of Ghana.

That move has proved to be a prudent one as China is now among the safest when it comes to the Coronavirus as the number of new cases has drastically reduced while Ghana is still recording an increasing number of new cases.

The student who expressed his delight at the care received, said students from other nations were even jealous of the care and attention they received from the Government of Ghana through its embassy in China.

Honestly, I feel so pampered as a Ghanaian student in China.

Other International students in my university were in “state of shock”. They asked “does your country, Ghana think about you guys this much? Your country gave each student in Hubei province $500 and food. Today too your embassy has given Ghanaian students in China bags of rice and bottles of oil. Are you sure your country is in Africa?”

I started asking myself questions. Is it because we don’t value what we have as a country until we lose? Or we deliberately keep mute on the good things and project only bad happenings as Ghanaians?

I think it is hightime we appreciate and value what we have now for others wish to be in our situation but struggling to climb the ladder.
