Covid-19: Severe punishment for disobeying lockdown in Ghana revealed

The president of the republic of Ghana in his address late yesterday imposed a partial lockdown on some cities in the country as part of measures to stem the spread of the Coronavirus.

Municipalities within the Greater Accra region including the Awutu Senya Municipality and the Greater Kumasi area will all go on lockdown effective 1am on Monday.

By section 6 of the Imposition of Restrictions Act, 2020 (Act 1012), the minimum punishment for flouting the restrictions/lockdown announced by the President is as follows:

Persons who disregard the lockdown/restrictions could face fines of between GHC6,000 to GHC12,000 and/or a prison term of between 4 to 10years.
