Officers at the Kpeshie divisional Police command has in their custody 4 persons suspected of defrauding many by posing as car dealers on the online marketplace tonaton.com.
The suspected ring of fraudsters who ply their trade by advertising cars on the tonaton platform at mouthwatering prices defraud prospective buyers by setting up a meeting with those who contact them to show interest in the vehicle, hand over the keys to them after negotiations, take the money but tell the victim the actual owner of the car is at legon seeking admission for his ward, and ask that the unsuspecting victim drive them there in order to hand the money over to the owner himself.
While there, the victim will meet the supposed owner at the administration and the others with a spare key will go move the car from the car park and abscond with the money and the car.
They are said to have defrauded over 50 victims. The police are requesting the general public report to the Kpeshie Police Station if they’re among those defrauded to help them prosecute the suspects.
