???? In 2018, Ghana earned a total of US$ 813.95 million from crude oil exports representing lifting proceeds received into the Petroleum Holding Fund (PHF). This is according to Bank of Ghana’s (BoG’s) Petroleum Holding Fund and Ghana Petroleum Funds Semi-Annual Report from July 2 to December 31, 2018. The PHF received a total amount of US$423.93 million from lifting proceeds in the second half compared to receipts of US$390.02 million in the first half, 2018.

Africa-focused Tullow Oil reported its first annual net profit in five years on Wednesday and said it would resume dividends with a 4.8 cent per share payout as it sets its sights on East African projects and drilling in Guyana. As flagged in November, Tullow will pay out at least $100 million to shareholders from this year, while aiming to shrink its $3.1 billion debt and increase spending to $570 million.

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta has said overall crude oil production from Ghana is expected to more than double over the next four years. “Overall, crude oil production is expected to increase from 196,089 barrels per day in 2019 to 420,020 barrels per day in 2023,” Mr Ofori-Atta told investors in Oslo, Norway. Addressing 20 key international companies, Mr Ofori-Atta, stated that Ghana has re-asserted herself strongly as a key destination for petrochemical industry players.
???? Samuel Atta Akyea, Minister of Works and Housing, has cut the sod for construction of a €13million waste-water treatment plant in Kumasi the Ashanti Region to begin. The project, a partnership between Jospong Group of Companies and a Hungarian technological engineering company, Pureco, will see construction of the 1000m3 waste-water treatment plant – a first of its kind in sub-Saharan Africa.
????European aircraft manufacturer Airbus has pulled the plug on its struggling A380 superjumbo, which entered service just 12 years ago. Airbus said last deliveries of the world’s largest passenger aircraft, which cost about $25bn to develop, would be made in 2021. The decision comes after Emirates, the largest A380 customer, cut its order. The A380 faced fierce competition from smaller, more efficient aircraft and has never made a profit.

Huawei Technologies Co. plans to roll out services from its first data center in South Africa in March, as the Chinese technology giant seeks to expand in Africa amid an escalating global row over the security of its equipment. The company is working with local partners to provide services from its first data-storage site to support cloud services in the country in Johannesburg, with a second to follow in Cape Town, Huawei said in an emailed statement on Wednesday.

The European Commission added Saudi Arabia, Panama and four U.S. territories to a blacklist of nations it considers a threat because of lax controls on terrorism financing and money laundering, the EU executive said on Wednesday. The move is part of a crackdown on money laundering after several scandals at EU banks, but it has been criticised by several EU countries, including Britain, that are worried about their economic relations with the listed states, notably Saudi Arabia. The United States has also disapproved.
